Merry Christmas

Posted by on Dec 23, 2011 in Graphic Design, illustrations | 0 comments

“Merry Christmas!” From Santa and Rudolph… And it’s the perfect time of year, Christmas day is just a few days away! So from Divine Fire Studios, to you and yours, we wish you a wonderful spirit-filled Merry Christmas and a great New Year! This illustration was another design for a clients greeting card business. Rendered in a very soft way to capture that child-like glow, Santa had to look classic as well as Rudolph, everyone’s favorite red-nosed reindeer. Taking out the hard black lines from the inking stage we were able to create an almost painted look adding...

Tooth Fairy

A very timeless rendition of a beloved kids character. Everyone has heard of the Tooth Fairy, and how she will sneak your lost tooth right out from under your pillow while you sleep, and leave a special gift in return. This was done for a clients new greeting card business, and recreating timeless characters to share with the ones you love all year round. It was important to capture the soft and enchanted character of the flying beauty, and do it in a child-like way, similar to the Disney movies kids are so in love with today. The glow about her also give her that extra touch to say...

Grifter

A highly detailed illustration of Grifter, an old-school hero with a bad attitude and a red train robber style mask, oh, and did I mention his guns? This is a favorite comic character of ours, and so he gets drawn frequently (so you may see him again!). This is a pin-up style illustration that really gets into the details and texture of his uniform and gear. Though an older sample of ours, it really highlights the detail and powerful visuals we like to implement in our work. If you need a comic or even just an illustration that would benefit from a powerful and detailed image to really...

Grifter 2

Maybe not a well known character but a favorite of ours; Grifter, is a gun-slinging, lone ranger, desperado type of comic hero who was created by comic legend Jim Lee,  in the 90′s on his creator owned comic called the WildC.A.T.S. Recently, he had his own comic launched with the “New 52,” from DC comics. This was a little illustration done to show our support for the fun character....

Captain America

A pencil illustration of Captain America unmasking the Red Skull, his arch-nemesis. A powerful comic icon, Captain America has been a symbol of American patriotism for many years and even rivals the iconic nature of Superman when it comes to the comic world. Also the hero of a new live action movie, he is certainly a favorite of any patriot and comic lover. Captain America and Red Skull are copyright and trademark of Marvel Comics...

The Lord is a Warrior

Posted by on Nov 27, 2011 in illustrations | 0 comments

This was a piece I did for a friend who gave me the idea back in College. I believe the idea originated from the book of Ezekiel, where it describes the LORD as a Warrior who slaughters all those who oppose Him. Below him is the blood of his enemies. “The LORD is a Warrior” is what Moses and the Israelites proclaimed when God drowned the pursuing Egyptians in the Red Sea. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Whoa! That’s pretty crazy view of God.” True, but it’s a realistic view. People tend to think of God just as a” loving” God, but not...

Guardian Angel

Taken from the book of Matthew, this image illustrates a very promising verse in the Bible:  “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven” (18:10). Jesus was making it clear that children have a special place in the heart of the Father, and that we shouldn’t despise or cross them at all, for they have a sort-of guardian angel that is always beholding the face of the Father. We can actually learn a lot from children for it’s their kind of...

THOR

A favorite hero of many, and certainly in the spotlight recently with his own movie, and not to mention, soon to be a part of the Avengers franchise next summer. One such fan commissioned this piece from Eric around the time of the THOR movie debut. Certainly not an action shot but a shot capturing the hero in all his glory, hammer in hand. Eric did this piece in blue pencil first to get his lines down, and then finished it off with tight pencils. You can still see the blue lines underneath giving it a sort of glow, but it adds a little life to it rather than just being black and...

Where all of our work begins… the pencil drawing. Using all of the information supplied by the customer we take our first shot at it. Sometimes we’ll nail it on the first try, but usually little adjustments will needed to get it right.  Taking a look at the next images you’ll see that some adjustment have been made. Remember, our top priority is customer satisfaction; we’re not fully happy until you are. We’ll work on it until we get it right. When it comes to changes and alterations, the first two adjustments are on us. Depending on the complexity and time...

Astro Heroes inked

The inked version of the Astro Heroes image. You’ll notice it has changed a bit from the penciled version, but it’s common to have some alterations between these two stages. It’s the best place to have them since it’s harder to change ink than pencil. For instance from the pencil to the ink stage, changes were requested – like the hair of the big guy in the background. Since he bears the Leo symbol, it was fitting to make his hair more wild and like a lions mane. Sometimes little alterations can change the dynamics of an image in a big way. It’s the little...

Astro Heroes color

W ork done for a client who needed original art to showcase his new website for selling t-shirts. What better way of showing off the t-shirts then having original comic characters dawning the symbols for them! Each character has a different symbol of the zodiac, as well as superpowers that represent those signs. We were supplied with the characters sign, and powers and the rest was up to us. Certainly a fun project to be a part of! This is the final color illustration, however, the one for the website would be reversed for layout purposes, so you may notice the zodiac symbols are...
