Guardian Angel

Taken from the book of Matthew, this image illustrates a very promising verse in the Bible:  “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven” (18:10). Jesus was making it clear that children have a special place in the heart of the Father, and that we shouldn’t despise or cross them at all, for they have a sort-of guardian angel that is always beholding the face of the Father. We can actually learn a lot from children for it’s their kind of “child-like” faith that we are all to have.

This picture illustrates one such angel, ascending steps to the throne of the Father. The initial intention of this picture was for it to be colored and to have the wings painted, almost brush-like, to capture the texture of the feathers, so they were never really finished in the inking stage. They are just hinted at and then fade off. The tedious work would be left for the colorist! But here we see the final inks before the coloring stage.
